Focus: Patience in Growth

Growth; [ɡrōTH]; NOUN

I. the process of increasing in physical size.

II. the process of developing or maturing physically, mentally, or spiritually.

III.the process of increasing in amount, value, or importance.

There are many different ways in which someone can grow and many different aspects of growth, but there is one in particular that remains constant throughout the adult life and that in my opinion is 'intrinsic' growth. Physical growth is visual to the eye, meaning those around us can also see our growth physically, and often comment on "how much we've grown" throughout our childhood. However, intrinsic growth is often unapparent and can be a vague phenomena for most.

The status of intellectual and spiritual growth can feel so personal that I often find it takes a bit of humility in order for anyone to realize the growth has occurred. Sometimes this growth can be painful, and other times it can be exhilarating and that's okay. I've come to terms with the fact that life changes and continues forward for everyone. No one person's life is identical to another. You will outgrow people, family, places, habits, etc.  Sometimes for the best and sometimes for the worst. Don't get caught up in comparing where you are to others because everyone is on a different path. Your path leads you in certain directions for a reason and not everyone is meant to come along with you. I have seen friends from time become my acquaintances, and strangers become friends. I've matured from this little girl that lived in a world that could do no harm to a young woman who has learned about a painful, harmful, bigger world that can only be healed by love. I've lived through pain. I've seen sorrow. I've loved. I've hurt.

These are the things in life that mold us. They shape us. We do with them what we please, which in return makes us who we are.
